Buzz Motorsports Brothers and Teammates, Derek and Nick Neville head to the Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway on a high note after solid showings in Michigan.
By Buzz Motorsports/M.P.H. PromotionsMackinaw, Illinois (08/28/2007): Mackinaw, Illinois Brothers, Derek and Nick Neville, both have remained positive through an up and down 2007 Racing Season in the ASA Late Model Series Northern Division Presented by GM Performance Parts.
Older Brother, 21-year-old Derek Neville hasn’t experienced nearly the bad luck that his younger 19-year-old sibling, Nick Neville has. The younger Neville has had, by his standards, a horrible sophomore season yet sits an impressive Seventh Place in the ASALMS Northern Division Points Standings. Only 39 markers back of the coveted Top Five and only 66 points back of his older brother!
Matter of fact, older brother Derek is quietly having a career season and sits only 29 points back of ASALMS Northern Division Points Leader, Peter Cozzolino heading into the Seventh Race of the 2007 season; The Hawkeye 100 Presented by Coors Light and Cassill Motors on Saturday September 1, 2007 at the Hawkeye Downs (IA) Speedway in Cedar Rapids, Iowa
In the last event for the Mackinaw, Illinois siblings, the ASALMS Northern Division was in the ASALMS home state of Michigan for the 3rd annual Mid-Michigan Doubles Weekend on Friday and Saturday August 17-18,. 2007. Night One was at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan while the second day of the doubles was to be at the Owosso (MI) Speedway in Ovid, Michigan.
Nick Neville overcame a season of bad luck to post a career high finish of a Fourth in the Wolverine 100 at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway while Derek wasn’t too far back of his younger brother and finished two spots back in Sixth Place, vaulting both drivers up the ASALMS Northern Division Points Standings.
“Maybe the season has finally turned around for us. A Sixth place finish at Rockford and a career best Fourth at Dixie is the way we thought whole season would go!” Nick Neville stated. “Even our luck on the Dixie Chopper team has improved as the invert draw put us on the pole for the first time this year.” He added.
The 19-year-old would start the Wolverine 100 from the pole position and led laps in ASALMS competition for the first time in his career. He led the first Four laps before Peter Cozzolino got around for the lead.
“Dixie is a good, racy track with room to pass. It really levels the playing field when we come to tracks that most of the teams have never been to. No one really unloads with a big advantage like they do when we race at places like Madison or ORP where the veterans have been to many times before and have a thick notebook to look back on!” Neville explained.
His brother, Derek finished just two spots back in Sixth Place. “Things are really clicking with the red 95 team. Crew Chief Chad Stevens is a great leader and his experience and knowledge of these Lefthander cars is amazing.” The Reigning ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year added.
“We have really been working hard on our qualifying which was a big weakness last season. Our Third Place time at Dixie showed that our effort is paying off! Starting near the front is a HUGE advantage when everyone has nearly the same equipment like we do in the ASALMS.” The older Neville Brother continued.
“A points championship is always in the back of your mind, but now that we are over half-way through the season and only 29 points out of the lead, it has become our goal!” The oldest of the “Brothers Neville” ended.
The next day at the Owosso (MI) Speedway, Derek Qualified Eighth fastest while Nick struggled with an 18th place effort. Unfortunately for both siblings, the Great Lakes 100 was later rained out. ASALMS and Owosso Speedway Officials could not find a suitable make-up date, so the Great Lakes 100 has been cancelled and will not be made up.
The remainder of the 2007 Racing Season will see the “Brothers Neville”; Derek and Nick Neville going after the 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Championship as well as making select appearances in both the ASALMS Challenge and Southern Divisions.
In his 2007 ASALMS Northern Division season to date, Derek Neville sits solidly in Third Place in the season long points chase with One Top Five finish, a season high Fifth place showing at the I-70 (MO) Speedway during the Missouri 100 Presented by KC Power Equipment back on June 9, 2007. His lone Top Five goes with Four Top 10s, and Five Top 15 finishes.
In select ASALMS Challenge Division appearances, Derek does have One Top 10 finish in two starts. He finished a solid 10th at the Iowa (IA) Speedway on May 19, 2007 during the Make-A-Wish 150 Presented by TMC Transportation and Northland Motor Oils and Lubricants.
As for his younger brother, Nick Neville stands a respectable Seventh in the ASALMS Northern Division points standings with one Top Five finish, a career high Fourth at the Dixie (MI) Motor Speedway in the Wolverine 100 to go with Three Top 10s which also stand as his three Top 15 finishes as well.
In addition, Nick also has an ARP Bodies Fast Qualifier Award, which he won in his first ever ASALMS Challenge Division event at the Music City (TN) Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee back on March 31, 2007.
For the 2007 season, Derek Neville will carry sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from: Ben E. Neville Roll-Off and Trucking Service as well as Buzz Motorsports, M.P.H. Promotions, and Dixie Chopper Lawn Mowers.
His younger brother, Nick Neville will also steer a Chevrolet Monte Carlo with sponsorship from; Dixie Chopper Lawn Mowers as well as Ben E. Neville Roll-Off and Trucking Service, Nicks Quality Lawn Care, M.P.H. Promotions, and Buzz Motorsports.
