Back to the ASA Late Model Series Challenge Division for the “Brothers Neville” this weekend at the immaculate Iowa (IA) Speedway.
By Buzz Motorsports/M.P.H. PromotionsMackinaw, Illinois (05/16/2007): Derek and Nick Neville’s 2007 Racing Season is well underway as the Mackinaw, Illinois siblings have both partook in two ASA Late Model Series events thus far with one appearance in the ASALMS Challenge Division in Nashville, Tennessee and the other during the ASALMS Northern Division Season Opener in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Now the Buzz Motorsports teammates will try their hand again in ASALMS Challenge Division competition this weekend with the running of the Make-A-Wish 150 Presented by TMC Transportation and Northland Oil at the beautiful 0.875 Mile Progressively Banked Paved Oval of the Iowa (IA) Speedway, located East of Iowa’s Capital city of Des Moines in Newton, Iowa. This will be the biggest track that either Neville Brother has ever raced on!
For the 2007 Racing Season, both Derek and Nick Neville will be going after the 2007 ASALMS Northern Division Championship as well as make select appearances in both the ASALMS Challenge and Southern Divisions. In addition, on ASALMS off weekends, both Neville Brothers will climb back into their dirt UMP Modified as often as possible.
The 2007 ASALMS Northern Division campaign for the “Brothers Neville” kicked off on April 28, 2007 at the O’Reilly (IN) Raceway Park at Indianapolis (Formally Indianapolis Raceway Park) for the running of the A.S.I. Limited 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products and Ed Martin Automotive Group. With 50 entries on hand, the brothers knew it would be a tough show indeed.
Derek Neville, the Reigning ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year got his 2007 North campaign started on the right track with a solid Seventh Place finish while younger brother, Nick Neville struggled for the second race in a row in 2007 and limped home in 27th with fuel pick-up problems.
“ORP was a great confidence booster. Coming out of there with a seventh place finish was a nice start to the North points chase.” Reflected Derek. “Last year we had to use a provisional to get in to the show at ORP. This year we did not have that luxury. I knew I had to qualify in on time because I had no provisional to use.” He added.
Neville didn’t have the benefit of his 2006 ASALMS North Owners Points as his previous Car Owner used them instead. So the 21-year-old had to actually Qualify into the show on time and with 50 cars, the team knew it would be a tough task.
“Crew Chief Chad Stevens gave me a fast car right out of the trailer and made a few good changes during practice that got us into the show.” The Mackinaw, Illinois driver continued. “Last year we struggled with our flat track program but I think we’ve got that monkey off our back” “I can’t wait to get on the big track at Newton. I really like the faster tracks” He added.
“Dixie Chopper Night at ORP was a lot of fun for our team until the race started. A fuel pick up problem caused us headaches for the entire event! It was our first mechanical DNF (Did Not Finish) in ASALMS.” A dejected Nick Neville stated.
“Thanks to the Dixie Chopper employees and their families for coming out to the track to say hi and to watch make our debut wearing the Dixie Chopper colors.” Continued the 19-year-old. “It’s time for our luck to turn around and there is no better place for that to happen than on the ultra fast Iowa Speedway. My crew has worked had to get my car braced up for the high speed track and I plan to make their efforts pay off!” The Younger Neville predicted.
Right after the Iowa Speedway show, the “Brothers Neville” then revert back to the ASALMS Northern Division and the second race of the 2007 season at the Grundy County (IL) Speedway in Morris, Illinois for the 1st annual Bob Milner Memorial 125 Presented by Bailey’s Carpet One of Morris.
“The Grundy County Speedway is considered our home track, so it will be fun to race in front of a lot of our family and friends!” Ended Derek while Nick added; “It’s close to home and hopefully after a good run at Iowa, both of us can have a great showing in front of everyone.”
The 2007 season for the Buzz Motorsports teammates actually began on March 31, 2007 at the famed Music City (TN) Motorplex in Nashville, Tennessee for the ASALMS Challenge Division second event of the Fifth Anniversary 2007 Season; The Music City Spring Clash 200. Both drivers were on hand last November and had experience on the fast 0.596 Mile High-Banked Paved Oval.
That proved to be beneficial to Nick Neville who won his first career ARP Bodies/Aluminum Racing Products Fast Qualifier Award over the 40-car field on hand. His older Brother, Derek finished 12th in the Feature while Nick finished 28th after a Lap 25 Accident.
During their freshman seasons of 2006, Derek Neville was crowned the 2006 ASALMS Northern Division Rookie of the Year beating his younger brother, Nick Neville, who settled for the runner-up spot for the coveted Freshman title. Derek finished 14 points ahead of Nick in both the Overall and Rookie title chases.
For the 2007 season, Derek Neville will carry sponsorship on the side of his Chevrolet Monte Carlo from: Ben E. Neville Roll-Off and Trucking Service as well as Dixie Chopper Lawn Mowers, Nick’s Quality Lawn Care, M.P.H. Promotions, and Buzz Motorsports.
His younger brother, Nick Neville will also steer a Chevrolet Monte Carlo with sponsorship from; Dixie Chopper Lawn Mowers as well as Ben E. Neville Roll-Off and Trucking Service, Nicks Quality Lawn Care, M.P.H. Promotions, and Buzz Motorsports.
